ROCKFORD (IL) – The weekly meeting of 1 Million Cups Rockford will move to Thinker Ventures, 317 W. Jefferson St. beginning this Wednesday.
1 Million Cups is an effort to build entrepreneurial communities across the United States. It was started by the Kauffman Foundation in Kansas City and has expanded to 133 communities across the Midwest, including four chapters in Illinois and four more in Wisconsin. At 9 a.m. Wednesdays, owners of startup businesses and nonprofits or businesses under five years old meet up with other entrepreneurs and businesses that are looking to help companies to network and mentor other business owners – or to just drink some coffee.
The Rockford chapter was launched in October 2016, meeting downtown at the Nordloff Center. Over the first year, dozens of business owners have shared their entrepreneurial stories and business plans, sought advice on how to overcome hurdles or simply to practice pitching their ideas in front of others. The new meeting site allows the group to take advantage of Thinker’s in-house audio and visual services. Wednesday’s presentation will be from KFact, a nonprofit formed in 2016 to serve under-privileged young women. The September 20 presenter is NonprofitTHRIVE.com, a Freeport-based business that helps nonprofits connect with volunteers through modern technology.
The meeting is free to attend and any business that provides business services, from accounting and marketing to web development and consulting, is encouraged to come and meet the up-and-coming entrepreneurs in the Rockford region. If you are the owner of a business less than five years old and would like to be a presenter, come to a 1 Million Cups to talk to the weekly organizers and see first-hand how the process works.
