Poopsie’s uses book about creativity to raise money for group that helps those in need

August 14, 2018 – GALENA, Illinois – Poopsie’s, a funky, fun retailer that’s been an anchor of Galena’s historic Main Street shopping district for more than 25 years, used a world renowned book about creativity and how it grows to help those in need in the Galena area.

Earlier this year, Poopsie’s donated $5 of each sale of Kobi Yamada’s 2014 book What Do You Do With An Idea? to Galena’s Women & Friends Making a Difference. That group was formed in 2017 to work with lower income individuals and families by providing food and clothing and information on to make healthier choices.

Yamada’s book tells the story of a child who brings a brilliant idea into the world. As the child’s confidence grows so does the idea until it breaks free, adding color to his once dull life. The final line of the book is a message for everyone. “What do you do with an idea? You change the world.”

The book is one of Poopsie’s best sellers and the store rallied its customers to donate to Women & Friends’ grocery drop-off project.

“The funds were used to help bring healthy food options to families that have very few options on a given day, especially in the summer months when school is not in session,” Poopsie’s owner Alana Turner said. “We hope that not only will it give them food for their table, but that it will inspire these families to sit down together more often for their family meals.”

Poopsie’s has been the gateway store of Main Street in Galena, Illinois, for more than 25 years. Galena’s Main Street has been named one of America’s best Main Streets by Fodor’s Travel Guides and the Huffington Post.
