ROCKFORD – Business-growth strategist Carrie Zethmayr announced the launch of a firm with offices in Chicago and Rockford to help businesses, primarily manufacturers, expand into new markets. Zethmayr calls upon her 10 years of experience in international business and economic development to help companies develop and execute strategies for selling to new markets. As companies expand sales, Zethmayr will also provide site selection and incentives-negotiation services to ensure that companies align their location strategy with their vision for long-term growth.

Before launching her namesake company, Zethmayr spent two years administering financial incentives on behalf of theIllinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. There, she negotiated more than $120 million in financial incentives for companies that collectively invested $1 billion-plus in the state, averaging $5.4 million in incentives per company, or $45,000 per job committed.
With language capability in Mandarin Chinese and French, she led international initiatives for the Rockford Area Economic Development Council from 2008 through 2015. This included administering the region’s Foreign Trade Zone, export-development consulting on behalf of the International Trade Center, and leading initiatives to attract Foreign Direct Investment from China and Western Europe that resulted in $50 million in new capital investment in the Rockford region.
Additional accomplishments:
  • Led business recruitment strategies, resulting in 10,000+ regional jobs and $1 billion in capital investment.
  • Led aerospace cluster development strategy, including initiatives focused on branding, workforce development, business development, supplier development, innovation and business recruitment.
  • Organized and led eight international trade missions to Canada, China and England for foreign direct investment marketing and export promotion, resulting in more than $5 million in capital investment from data-identified companies.
  • Administered the federal FTZ program, which allows direct import of foreign product; increased activated sites by 50% in the first year, resulting in 32% revenue growth, saving companies up to $2 million in annual duties and fees.
  • Provided consulting services to more than 100 companies on export compliance (including ITAR, EAR and OFAC training), market research, trade finance and logistics — directly resulting in $17 million in client export sales.
