Independent Ear, a Rockford, Ill.-based music label, has six of its bands, including Rockford’s own Jerry Dale Harris, performing at SXSW Music Week in Austin, Texas.

SXSW was launched in 1987 and has grown to be the largest music festival of its kind in the world with more than 2,000 acts performing each year. The festival kicked off Friday and runs through March 19.

Independent Ear has 16 artists or bands on its label from five countries (U.S., Wales, Scotland, Hungary and Australia). Along with Harris, Independent Ear bands from Chicago, Troy, Mich; Cincinnati and Akron, Ohio and Las Vegas are performing in Austin.

Independent Ear’s entire group of bands – Harris, The Summit, Dylan Lloyd, Nick Urb, L.A. Knights and Rabid Young – will be performing on March 14 during the Red Gorilla Music Fest at The Rooftop on 6th Street. For the full schedule and details, visit independentear.com or see the SXSW scheduling tool.

It’s the second straight year Independent Ear has taken its artists to Austin and the first time Thinker Ventures is one of the sponsors. The others making the trip possible are Block Media Group, Foxing Productions, The Summit LLC., Oz Enterprises, Bygone Brand, Brutal Gamer, The Studio Nashville, Working Brilliantly, Sparkling Ice, Rockford Roasting Company and Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.
